It was narrated that al-Bara’ ibn ‘Aazib, raadi Allahu ‘anhu, said: The Messenger of Allaah, salallahu alayhi wa sallam, said: “There are no two Muslims who meet and shake hands, but they will be forgiven before they part.”
Narrated and classed as hasan by al-Tirmidhi (2727); narrated by Ibn Maajah (3703); classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Targheeb, 2718.

Anas bin Malik said:
“When the people of Yemen came, the Prophet said: “The people of Yemen have come, and they have softer hearts than you,” and they were the first people to initiate the tradition of shaking hands.”

And in the narration of Ahmad, Anas said:
“So, the Ash’aris came forth – including Abu Musa al-Ash’ari – and when they approached Madinah, they began chanting:
Tomorrow, we shall meet our beloved * Muhammad and his party
So, when they finally arrived, they shook our hands. They were the first people to initiate the tradition of shaking hands.”
